My taste for music is really varied, and dynamic. As you can probably guess, I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson. I am also very interested in Elvis and Sinatra. Coming to Berkeley in August of 1998 has made me realize just how many different types of music there are. I started getting back into the hip hop scene, which I had long since forgotten about. I think it was at the beginning of seventh grade that my music tastes changed. From hip hop on 97.5 KHTY to rock and punk on 92.9 KGEE and 99.9 KTYD in Santa Barbara. The dorms at Berkeley opened me up to new music - I'd borrow various CD's from people and have them burned for me. Also, living with a guy who can't handle any other music besides hip hop made me adapt to a more main-stream musical selection. From there I went back to my youth and found many great 80's and early 90's hits. After that my brother had become immersed in the hardcore rap scene. It took me quite a while to really respect them as musicians but now realize how difficult it is to create and perform such tracks. The RZA, Method Man and ODB (pictured above), the GZA, Ghostface Killah, DMX, Inspectah Deck and Eminem are the artists I mostly listen to from this genre. Other types of music I'm interested in but won't go into detail about are Hawaiian, Christian, Swing, Latin, Trance, Jungle, Funk, Reggae, House, Blues, Disco, Soul, Classical, Metal, Rock, Pop, 50's and even some Indian Bhangra music (if you can believe that).
As for music I "own", I have over 1000 MP3s, 150 CDs and some tapes somewhere, I think. It's weird having so much music, it's almost as if I want to listen to all the songs at the same time. It's like I don't want to listen to the whole song, only part of it, but when I do I'm thinking of another song to listen to. Now I'm continually thinking of music, songs I have or songs to get. I think it has gotten a little bit out of control.
